Aussie could face firing squad over 'child abuse ring'

Australian 53-year-old Peter Gerard Scully could be put before the firing squad if the Philippines chooses to re-introduce capital punishment, which was outlawed in 1986.

AN Australian man who allegedly tortured, murdered and sexually abused children in the Philippines could face the death penalty.

Fairfax Media reports that 53-year-old Peter Gerard Scully could be put before the firing squad if the Philippines chooses to re-introduce capital punishment, which was outlawed in 1986.

Chief Philippine prosecutor Jaime Umpa said the Melbourne father-of-two was the mastermind behind an extreme child sex and torture video syndicate operating across the Philippines.

"If I had my choice it would be death for Scully. I want it to happen," Mr Umpa told Fairfax Media.

"We have to send a strong message to others that if they come to the Philippines and torture and abuse our children in this way they will be investigated with the full force of the law and executed."

If found guilty, Mr Scully faces 30 years behind bars and then deportation to Australia.

"We don't believe this is sufficient for these crimes that were committed," Mr Umpa said.

It is alleged Mr Scully lured poor children with promises of food and education before allegedly drugging them and making the films.

Prosecutors allege he operated a secret child pornography site where he sold the videos for up to $10,000 per view.

He was arrested in February, 2015, along with a number of alleged accomplices.

He has pleaded not guilty to the rape and trafficking of two teenage girls. - ARM NEWSDESK
