FRIENDS Julie, Julia and Madison probably would have got some strange looks as they told everyone about the dinosaur they found up on Mount Coolum this morning.

Luckily, the trio got photographic evidence of the velociraptor that they are now trying to reunite with its owner.

Julie Warhurst said when she met her friends up the top of Mount Coolum they had already come across the lost-looking dinosaur.

"When I walked up the mountain this morning they were already up there and had found a note attached to it," she said.

"It pretty much said that he's been here, done this, done that and is ready to go home now.

"One of my friends was up there at sunset last night and there was no dinosaur so it was planted last night for sure."

She said the note said it belonged to an owner at the Big Pineapple but when they rang no one there knew what they were talking about.

"They didn't really take us seriously so we called the police and they asked if we could get it down so we carried the dinosaur down the mountain and took it to the Coolum Police station."

Julie said the dinosaur was approximately five foot tall and wasn't in the best shape.

"It's almost as tall as me," she said.

"It's a bit worse for wear - it's missing its tail, an arm and an eye."

The dinosaur was now patiently waiting for its real owner at the Coolum Police Station.
