COMET Rodeo has been forced to postpone this weekend's event due to extensive road closures in the local area and throughout the state.

"We have got competitors from as far as Brisbane and Townsville, so it's not just the local roads we are looking at," Comet Rodeo president Wayne McGee said yesterday.

The annual central Queensland rodeo which supports children's family charity Camp Quality, will postpone proceedings until June or July.

McGee thanked his supporters and sponsors for their assistance and said they could look forward to an even bigger and better event later in the year.
