NFL copes with murder-suicide by Chiefs player

TRAGEDY dampened the normally festive tailgating party on Sunday at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium, where Chiefs fans lamented the murder-suicide on Saturday involving Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and thoughts turned to his now-orphaned daughter.

Police said Belcher shot his girlfriend to death on Saturday morning at their home in Kansas City and then drove to the team's practice facility.

He then shot himself to death in the parking lot while head coach Romeo Crennel and General Manager Scott Pioli watched, police said.

"It is a sad situation, but to me, ultimately, the man committed murder," said Chiefs' fan Tony Alonzo.

"The big picture is that it was a murder."
