FOOTBALL: Real Madrid's French striker Karim Benzema scored with the last kick of the game to give Real Madrid a 3-all draw with Sevilla and a Spanish club record.

Benzema's deflected goal at Sevilla booked Real's place in the last eight of the Copa del Rey and set a record of 40 games without defeat, passing the mark set by Luis Enrique's Barcelona.

Zinedine Zidane's men have not lost since a 2-0 defeat at Wolfsburg in the Champions League last season. Since then they have had 30 wins and 10 draws in all competitions.

Real's draw gave the club a 6-3 aggregate win over Sevilla.

With Real enjoying a 3-0 advantage from the first leg, Zidane rested stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric, making their safety a priority over continuing the streak.

The tactic looked to have come undone when after nine minutes Sevilla led through a Danilo own goal.

Madrid could have gone in trailing by even more if it wasn't for Kiko Casilla keeping the home team at bay time and again.

Youngster Marco Asensio levelled early in the second half after an 80-metre solo run, but a volley by debutant Stevan Jovetic had Sevilla back in the lead shortly after.

Jorge Sampaoli's side continued to press while Madrid wasted opportunities.

Sevilla's Vicente Iborra goaled with 13 minutes to go, putting pressure on Madrid.

But a penalty from Sergio Ramos and then Benzema's equaliser ensured Madrid broke Barcelona's record.

Madrid's left-back Marcelo said his team never thought its record run, even when down 3-1.

"We never doubted in any moment,” Marcelo told Spanish TV. "We had to have patience. This lasts 90 minutes and in the end we played a good game overall.

"We knew it was going to be like this, despite the first leg result. Sevilla pushed a lot, but in the end the three goals we scored in the first leg helped us.”
