QUEENSLAND'S attorney-general will appeal against a 10-year jail sentence for a Gold Coast man convicted of killing a friend.

Dionne Lacey, the son of millionaire milkman Ken Lacey, was jailed last month for 10 years over the fatal shooting of Nerang landscaper Kevin Palmer in 2007.

He was found guilty, after trial, of Mr Palmer's manslaughter.

His brother, 26-year-old wannabe rapper Jade Lacey, was jailed for five years for unlawful wounding after shooting Mr Palmer in the leg before Dionne fired the fatal bullet.

Attorney-general Cameron Dick has lodged an appeal with the Court of Appeal in Brisbane arguing for an increase in Dionne's sentence, saying it did not reflect the gravity of the offence.

He will also argue the sentencing judge placed too much emphasis on mitigating factors when deciding on the sentence, which he claims does not act as a general deterrent.

The Laceys have both also already lodged appeals against their convictions and sentences.
