EMERALD'S under-10 boys touch team is on a high following its win at the Queensland Junior State Cup.
Emerald Touch Association took five teams to Caboolture to compete against the best in Queensland.
Emerald coach Lana Roberts was elated with her team's performance.
“Their efforts at training leading up to and throughout the carnival, and the way the boys gelled together in a great team effort, showed what can be achieved,” Roberts said.
Against their more fancied opponents, the Emerald team came up trumps with seven wins, one draw and one loss over the three-day carnival.
On their way to the finals, Emerald defeated Hervey Bay 5-1, Brisbane City 2-0, Gympie 7-0, Gold Coast 2-1 and a three-all draw against 'cup final' winners Chinchilla in the round games.
In the quarter final, Emerald defeated Caboolture 7-1, and accounted for Brisbane City 5-2 in the semi-final, before defeating Redland Bay in the championship final.
“The skills and sportsmanship that players gain from attending carnivals like the Queensland Junior State Cup are second to none and it shows that small associations like Emerald can compete against the best in Queensland,” Emerald Touch spokesperson Wendy Lawrence said.
Jack Brown was awarded Player of the Final by the Queensland Touch Association before the team was presented with championship medals and championship cup.
