Film a 'cry' for help

BIMBLEBOX Nature Refuge owner Paola Cassoni said a soon-to-be-released documentary about the effects of coal mining on rural Australia was a cry for help.

Paola Cassoni needs help to distribute a film about her battle with a mining company.

BIMBLEBOX Nature Refuge owner Paola Cassoni said a soon-to-be-released documentary about the effects of coal mining on rural Australia was a cry for help.

The 800ha Bimblebox refuge near Alpha is under threat from Clive Palmer's proposed Waratah Coal China First coal mine. In its Environmental Impact Statement, Waratah has proposed to offset the impacts of Bimblebox by offering a new, separate piece of land.

"This documentary was born out of the necessity to let the city cousins know that our bush, our farms and our waters are going through a radical transformation," Ms Cassoni said.

"It's a cry for help for a new direction in both our own energy consumption and Australia's coal export.

"Mike O'Connell, the documentary maker, has donated his time and country folks have financed the project. We are now looking for some funds for the distribution so the message gets spread far and wide."
