Richmond is 500 km west of Townsville on the Flinders Highway in North West Queensland, situated halfway between Townsville and Mount Isa. The surrounding region has all the beauty and dramatic landscapes of the outback. The Position: The position of Safety & Compliance Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing and promoting effective Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) systems and Return to Work programs, and to assist with environmental and cultural heritage issues, in accordance with legislative requirements and Council Policies and processes. The applicant will serve as Council’s Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator. The applicant will organise and coordinate training for staff.
The Person: The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in development and maintenance of a WHS Management System. A Certificate IV in Occupational Health & Safety is desirable. Experience in environmental and/or cultural and heritage assessments for civil construction projects, is desirable. Demonstrated knowledge is essential of the workplace health & safety legislation. A current C class manual driver’s licence is essential. If you have a ‘can do’ attitude, a high level of computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite and a high level of oral and written skills, plus the qualifications outlined in the position description, then we would like to hear from you!
The Remuneration Package: Council will offer a package in accordance with the Richmond Shire Council - Certified Agreement 2018 and the Local Government Industry Award (Stream A) 2017 and commensurate with the qualifications & experiences of the successful candidate. Council pay an over award payment of 32.5% plus a locality allowance and council’s 6% performance bonus on the successful completion of a 3 month probation. Council housing may be available.
