18-year-old in critical condition after chase ends in crash

POLICE are investigating a serious traffic crash that occurred last night in Bundall.

Initial investigations suggest that shortly before 8.30pm, a vehicle was detected by police at excessive speeds travelling on Bundall Road near Crombie Street.

Police have attempted to intercept the vehicle but have been unsuccessful.

The speeding vehicle then had a minor collision with another vehicle at the intersection of Salerno Street and continued along Bundall Road.

Police then located the vehicle around 200 meters from the intersection, where it crossed onto the wrong side of the road and collided head on with another vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle, an 18-year-old female, was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital and is currently in a critical condition.

The male driver of the vehicle it collided with suffered minor injuries and a female passenger suffered numerous broken bones but her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Police are asking that anyone that may have been in the area at the time or saw the incident to contact them via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
