19-year-old woman allegedly stole car full of children

A WOMAN has been charged with a number of offences including deprivation of liberty following an incident in Mount Isa yesterday afternoon.

It will be alleged around 3.30pm the woman who was a passenger in a car parked in Pamela Street has stolen the vehicle after the driver has left it to attend a shop. The vehicle also contained three other passengers all of who were young children.

It will be further alleged the woman drove the vehicle in a dangerous manner and refused to comply with police directions to stop.

The vehicle has then struck a tree in Barton Street at which time police have apprehended the woman and removed the three children.

The children were not physically injured and the woman was arrested and later charged.

A 19-year-old Mount Isa woman was charged with three counts of deprivation of liberty, two counts each of dangerous operation of a vehicle and failure to stop and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence.

She is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on October 12.
