2014 Ferrari 458 Speciale is racetrack ready

FOR  this week's blog, I am featuring one of the fastest accelerating (and also one of the most aggressive looking) road legal Ferrari's of all time, the 2014 Ferrari 458 Speciale.

The Speciale is what the Scuderia is to the F430 and what the Challenge Stradale is to the 360, a stripped down hard-core version of a standard Ferrari model, in this case a 458 Italia.

The engine is the same as in the 458 Italia, but it's tuned up to produce a whopping 445kW (597 hp) at 9000rpm and 540Nm of torque (398 lb-ft of torque) at 6000rpm.

This means that the horsepower is up by 35 over the standard car, and there is also more torque across the entire rev range.

The engine is also the most potent non-turbo V8 that Ferrari has ever put in one of their road cars.

This model also has a kerb weight of 1395 kilograms, 90 kilograms less than a 458 Italia.

All of these enhancements allow the Ferrari 458 Speciale to achieve a 0-100 kph acceleration time of just three seconds, which is a mighty 0.4 of a second faster than a 458 Italia, and 0.1 of a second faster than the much more expensive F12 Berlinetta.

Top speed will be reached at 325 kph (202 mph).

Besides the engine, weight and performance enhancements the Speciale features over it's 458 counterpart, this model is equipped with a new SSC setting on the Manettino, which stands for Side Slip Control.

This basically allows you to go sideways in the car but with the ESC system still engaged, and if you get a little out of shape the car swoops in and saves you.

It also features new generation ceramic brakes similar to the LaFerrari, active aerodynamics which balances downforce and cuts drag, a faster steering response, stiffer chassis and much more.

The 2014 Ferrari 458 Speciale is well ahead of its time in the automotive world, basically blowing away competitors and, it could quite possibly be the best drivers car on the market today. If you would like to purchase a 2014 Ferrari 458 Speciale in Australia, prices start at $550,000 plus on-road costs.

Although, you may have to wait a while as there is currently a two-year waiting list.
