22 boozy drivers busted behind the wheel

A DOZEN boozy drivers have been caught behind the wheel this week after a policing blitz on Mackay's roads.

Senior Constable Steve Smith said Road Policing Units had caught 12 alleged drink-drivers between Monday and 6am Friday.

He said a further 10 alleged drug drivers were caught.

Snr Cnst Smith said a 48-year-old Mackay man driving along on Victoria St, Mackay was alleged to have blown the highest reading at three times the legal limit.

Snr Cnst Smith said the driver was intercepted just before midnight on Tuesday when he allegedly recorded 0.173 per cent BAC.

The driver was charged with driving while under the influence and will appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on October 6.

"Regardless of where you may live in the Mackay Police District, you can expect to see police officers stopping vehicles and testing drivers for being under the influence of illegal drugs and alcohol at all hours of the day," Snr Cnst Smith said.
