50 firefighters join annual Bike 4 Burns charity ride

FIFTY firefighters and volunteers will leave Roma this week and make their way to Brisbane for the annual Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Bike 4 Burns charity bike ride.

The 835 kilometre journey, now in its eighth year, will take seven days to complete and will raise much-needed funds for the Children's Hospital Foundation.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Lee Johnson said on Monday Bike 4 Burns continues to be a successful and much anticipated event on the QFES calendar.

"To date the charity ride has raised $308,500 for the Children's Hospital Foundation to specifically put towards burn technology research and development," he said.

"Each rider's determination and courage to pedal 835 kilometres while admirable, is far surpassed by the determination and courage of those children inflicted by burns and have to face numerous operations to continually stretch their skin as their little bodies grow.

"However, the riders remind me that it is the least they can do to help out."

Riders will set out from Roma on Wednesday (May 14) Roma and cycle through Surat, St George, Goondiwindi, Inglewood, Pittsworth, Gatton and finally Brisbane.
