62-year-old-man taken by croc in Kakadu

THE search for a man taken off a boat by a crocodile in the Kakadu National Park was being scaled back on Sunday night.

The 62-year-old was with his wife and daughter-inlaw when he was pulled from the boat on the South Alligator River, a remote area accessed by 4WD, about two hours from the nearest town.

Police in Cooinda, about 300km east of Darwin, raised the alarm and search party was sent to the scene but by Sunday night, there was still no sign of the man.

The NT Department of Parks and Wildlife confirmed the man was onboard the boat before he disappeared but had not released information about how the crocodile attacked.

It's the second time a person has been taken by a crocodile in the north this year.

A 12-year-old boy died after being dragged under water in front of his friends at a swimming hole near Jabiru in January.
