TODAY's launch of the NBN Co Sky Muster satellite means high speed broadband for those in remote areas is one step closer as are the associated 900 extra jobs in Queensland.
The jobs are required for the NBN Co rollout, according to Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen.
"The Sky Muster satellite will provide high speed broadband capability in some of the more remote areas of the country so if there are pockets in this region which can not be reached by other methods, this satellite will provide that connectivity," Mr Christensen said.
"During the first half of 2016 people will start to access these services.
"The other exciting thing for jobseekers is that the contractors and subcontractors who will work with NBN Co to roll out the full program of NBN services need to boost their workforce and the estimate is that 900 extra jobs will be created in Queensland.
"These jobs will be for line workers, cable jointers, technicians and data cablers.
"Mature age telecommunication workers, school leavers and general jobseekers are all eligible to apply as NBN Co will pay for the Certificate 2 and Certificate 3 training that is required.
"There will also be opportunities for people already working in a related field to upskill.
"Expressions of interest for these jobs will open late this month but those interested can find out more from NBN Co."
