AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by the State Department of Education and Training (DETE) after an Aldridge State High School student alleges he was told "come here black boy" by a teacher on duty.

On Wednesday afternoon, Maryborough parents and proud Indigenous Australians Lynette and Russell Miller received a phone call to say their son Phillip Alberts, 15, had been suspended for two days after swearing at a teacher.

When Lynette asked her son why he had sworn at his teacher, Phillip told her about the alleged racial slur.

"I was, and am, absolutely disgusted," Lynette said.

Speaking to the Chronicle, the Year 9 student said he was "pretty devastated" to be called a black boy by someone he was supposed to look up to.

"I think it kind of sets a bad example," Phillip said.

"My friends and everyone heard it."

The Millers moved down from Rockhampton to the Fraser Coast in May this year and had chosen Aldridge High School as the best school for Phillip because of the positive reviews that had heard from other people in the area.

After this incident, Lynette and Russell have decided to send Phillip to another school, but Lynette said "racism is ripe" all over the Fraser Coast.

"Words like that take you back 50 years," Lynette said.

The DETE has confirmed an investigation is continuing, but was unable to comment further at this time.
