Australia commits $15 million to help Fiji after Winston
AUSTRALIA has committed $15 million to help communities in Fiji devastated by Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop is in Fiji visiting communities and hundreds of Australian relief workers.
In a statement, she said the Australian Government had dispatched 30 relief flights from Australia to Fiji and delivered more than 500 tonnes of goods and equipment.
Ms Bishop said Australia's assistance would reach up to 200,000 people.
Those in worst affected areas received shelter kits and access to safe water.
Australian medical teams have also treated more than 1500 people in mobile health clinics.
"Australia will work closely with Fijian authorities to make urgent repairs to schools, medical clinics and basic infrastructure," Ms Bishop said in the statement.
