Galaxy poll shows surge in support for Newman Government

DESPITE losing a prominent MP last week, the Newman Government has seen a surge in voter support, a Galaxy poll reported on Saturday.

The state government, which last week lost Chris Davis, who resigned on Friday after voicing his concerns about changes to electoral donations laws which passed parliament.

In the poll, published by News Ltd papers, the Newman Government picked up two per cent, up from 41% to 43% since February this year.

But Premier Newman's personal popularity has taken a small dive, slipping 4%, while Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk's support also dropped 2%.

The poll comes as the government prepares for a tough battle with Labor to retain the Brisbane seat of Stafford, which Mr Davis will vacate if a by-election is called before the state election comes due in 10 months.

It also marks a turn in the Newman Government's support, after a series of polls showed falling public support as the government passed a raft of bikie and crime-related laws.
