KFC looks to serve alcohol at its outlets

THE Colonel's secret herbs and spices could be washed down with lager if KFC is successful in its bid to serve alcohol at its restaurants.

A new Sydney store has applied for a liquor licence in a trial move to see if the multinational chain can keep up with new fast-food franchises offering diners beer and cider along with their greasy staple dishes.

The move follows two Canadian KFC stores trialling alcohol sales last year, under a rebranded "more hipster" banner which offered mango rice salads along with the age-old quarter chicken and chips.

The Sydney store will open under the name KFC Urban this year.
