Protesters slam plan to ban bikies owning tattoo parlours

PROPOSED laws to ban bikies from owning tattoo parlours were slammed yesterday by a group of protesters on the steps of Parliament House in Adelaide.

Legislation introduced last month would ban members of motorcycle clubs and their associates from operating tattoo parlours, with penalties of up to four years in jail for non-compliance.

Following in the footsteps of Queensland, South Australia adopted new anti-association laws in July and outlawed 10 groups.

Attorney-General John Rau has defended the tattoo parlour laws, saying such businesses have been used as a front for illegal activity and organised crime.
