Drink nights with cousin are over after fight nights

A GLADSTONE man vows not to go out drinking booze with his cousin again because the friendly drink nights end in fight nights.

Brenton Shayler-Rouvray got busted for committing a public nuisance in the vicinity of licensed premises in the early hours of Sunday, September 6.

The 22-year-old pleaded guilty in the Gladstone Magistrates Court to the charge.

He also pleaded guilty to contravening a police direction to give his identification particulars within seven days.

"I've stopped drinking with him," Shayler-Rouvray told magistrate Jason Schubert.

Prosecutor Snr Constable Sam Pyke said police had been on Goondoon St near MIePlace nightclub at 1.10am and saw Shayler-Rouvray arguing outside with another male.

The men began to push each other and security officers intervened.

"He says he always fights with his cousin when they go out drinking," Sen Const Pyke said.

Shayler-Rouvray had previously received probation for a prior public nuisance offence.

Defence lawyer Jun Pepito said the kitchen steward instructs him that his cousin invited him to go out drinking that night in Gladstone.

He said they had been drinking alcohol to excess when the incident occurred.

"He ended up with a nose bleed as he made a swing at my client," Mr Pepito said.

"It was distressful to him to come home with a nose bleed".

When magistrate Schubert noted that he seems to get into trouble when he drinks, Shayler-Rouvray replied he had now stopped drinking with his cousin.

Mr Schubert fined him $700.
