A TOUCHING exhibition in the St Vincent's Hospital foyer is on display for the month of October.

Busted celebrates the human form after breast cancer, in the lead up to Blushing Week.

A side profile painted white with blue stripes sums up cancer survivor Gaye Shaw to a tee.

"I have (Bananas in Pyjamas) B1 and B2 dolls in my chemo (treatment) bag that have been through it all with me - at the hospital, in surgery, with me everywhere I go," she said.

"It's what got me through; I'm a kid at heart."

The cast was created by USQ art student Kate Wagner who described the experience as a privilege.

"I wanted to gain as much life experience as possible. These ladies have gone through so much darkness and pain and for them to come across on the other side with such a positive outlook is inspirational," she said.

"I didn't care that it was in an exhibition, the main goal was for Gaye to love it and she did. I made a life-long friend.

"I wanted to capture her bubbly personality. She didn't let herself be defined by cancer; she overcame it, it's part of her story but not who she is."

St Vincent's Hospital spokesman Sonia Wood said Busted's launch on Wednesday night was magical and powerful.

"All the pieces say so much without words. There are no captions on the artworks; they stand alone and tell the individual person's journey with cancer," she said.

Blushing Week is a seven day awareness and fundraising campaign for local women receiving treatment for breast cancer.

Held from October 24-31, it features a number of events including high tea, forums and Blush Ball at the Empire Theatre.
