Ablett sneaks home in last round to snare Brownlow

GOLD Coast AFL star Gary Ablett snuck home in the last round of voting to take his second Brownlow Medal last night.

His final-round performance against the GWS Giants garnered the critical votes to push him past Geelong skipper Joel Selwood and Collingwood midfielder Dane Swan for the AFL's premier individual award.

Ablett finished with 28 votes to Selwood's 27, with Swan on 26.

A gracious Ablett said afterwards he would have been happy to have received only two votes in the last round, which would have seen a  tie between himself and Selwood. "Joel deserves this as much as I do," Ablett said.

Ablett, became  the fifth player to win Brownlow Medals at different clubs, after winning his firts medal in 2009 with Geelong.
