ACCC launches legal action over door-to-door sales
THE competition watchdog has begun Federal Court action against an energy company and four sales and marketing companies over door-to-door selling practices.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) alleges Energy Australia sales people and four marketing and sales companies it used made false, misleading or deceptive claims when they called on people at their homes to negotiate electricity and gas contracts.
The marketing companies involved have been named as Sales Marketing and Real Technologies, Aegis Services Australia, Multiple Stories (trading as Aegis Direct) and Australian Sales and Promotions.
It is alleged the conduct took place in various parts of Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland between July 2011 and August 2012.
In February, Energy Australia, formerly called Tru Energy, said it would stop door-to-door marketing by the end of this month.
