Actor injured as airport emergency exercise goes wrong

A SIMULATED plane crash at Bundaberg Airport suddenly became real when one of the participants was injured during the staged exercise.

Police, ambulance, firefighters, SES workers and security staff were involved in the training exercise on Friday that aimed to co-ordinate all the efforts of emergency services to provide a rapid response in case of any future similar event.

Actors were brought in to re-enact different situations and it was during one mock scenario that a male actor was genuinely injured.

Queensland Ambulance Service Bundaberg acting senior operations supervisor Derek Hegh confirmed the incident.

"The procedures to manage that immediately came into play," he said. "The person was treated by ambulance staff and taken to hospital."

Mr Hegh said the man was taken to Bundaberg Hospital.

"I believe (he sustained) soft tissue damage," he said.

"It was just unfortunate - it does happen some times."

Reports to the NewsMail suggested the actor had been stood on.
