PROTESTORS and police are this morning in a stand-off with activists blocking the only access road to Bowen's giant coal terminal.

About 40 protesters have blocked access to Abbot Point Rd, which is owned by North Queensland Bulk Ports.

A line of activists was standing on the road and at 9.20am a police line was moving towards them.

District Inspector Steve O'Connell of the Mackay Police District this morning spoke with a media liaison person representing the protesters.

He told the anti-Adani activists they would have to move on when directed by police and they were not allowed to block the road.
