Alan Jones: LNP knows nothing about the Darling Downs

RIGHT wing radio giant Alan Jones has taken to Brisbane airwaves this morning, using his first moments on the mic to take down Premier Campbell Newman and the LNP Government.

The shock jock is appearing on Fairfax Radio's 4BC each morning for the next two weeks as part of an election special.

First on the agenda, Jones took on the LNP for its embracing of coal seam gas, particularly around where Jones grew up -- the Darling Downs.

"I've forgotten more about the Darling Downs than Mr Newman and his so-called mates have ever learned," he said.

He then turned to the expansion of New Hope Coal's Acland mine, outside of Ipswich.

The Premier visited Jones's home before the 2012 election, according to the Jones, and said there would be no "third stage" for the mine.

It was later approved, apparently after Jones went off air.

"Campbell Newman lied to me. I have no reason to believe anything he says.

"What was the price New Hope Coal had to pay to get Acland stage three approved?"

Jones said the company donated $650,000 to the LNP.

The poisonous criticism from Jones is another tough break for the LNP today, after CommSec released its "State of the States" economic rankings showing Queensland's unemployment rate was 25.4% higher than the 10-year average.

Queensland came fifth in rankings that compared the economies of each Australian state.
