ALAN Jones is $50 poorer after the Sydney-based radio broadcaster, who was born in Acland, made public a bet over the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

Live on air in 2014, Mr Jones declared he would bet $50 against former Queensland premier Campbell Newman and prominent Toowoomba businessman John Wagner.

The terms of the bet were: "That the contract of the bypass goes to the 'Toowoomba mates club', $50 bucks".

"That some French company will link up with Gardeners (FKG Group) and Wagners to the construction of the bypass, who'll take me on?" Mr Jones said.

".... after all the bypass is the flip-side of the airport - this stuff never ends.

"Remember I said to you about the noise the other day, oink, oink, oink, oink, the sounds of snouts in the trough," Mr Jones said before questioning the approval of Toowoomba West Wellcamp Airport.

Mr Jones lost that bet when the contract was awarded to Spanish consortia Nexus and the Wagners-backed group Rangelink lost out.

It is unclear whether Mr Jones has paid the $50 bet.
