All-new 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class starts from $60,900
AUSTRALIA'S best-selling luxury car will rise in price but come with extra kit when the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class arrives next month.
The C200 will be the C-Class price leader, starting from $60,900, and models will begin arriving in dealerships from August 23. Wagon derivatives will follow during November.
Prices on the base and mid-spec variants will rise by about $1000, but the luxury marque is forecasting hefty steps forward in equipment.
Five sedan versions will be launched - all will be under the luxury car tax threshold as they achieve fuel consumption of less than seven litres for every 100km.
C200s will have LED headlamps, 18-inch alloys, Collision Prevention Assist PLUS, blind spot assist, electric seats, Garmin Map Pilot satellite navigation, ambient interior lighting throughout the cabin (three different colour modes), digital radio, power operated park brake, keyless start function along with automatic parking.
Mercedes-Benz says both the C250 (petrol) and C250 BlueTEC (diesel) will also gain technology "yet to be seen in this segment of the market".
The new C250 variants will arrive with the full Driver Assistance Package PLUS package most recently seen in the latest S-Class, including radar cruise control and a steering function which helps keep the car in its lane.
Other standard features include Keyless-Go with hands-free access, real leather upholstery (not the standard man-made material) and 19-inch alloy wheels are all part of the package.
While all drivetrain details are yet to be released, the C300 BlueTec Hybrid will have an average fuel consumption figure of 3.6 litres/100km.
The new C-Class has also grown, the wheelbase is 80mm larger. It's cabin is 95mm longer and 40mm wider. Rear seat space has increased, while the boot is larger at 480 litres.
It will also come with a five-star ANCAP safety rating with good crash test performance and a suite of standard safety assist technologies including standard Autonomous Emergency Braking across all models and an "active" bonnet for improved pedestrian protection.
