All Stars role fills Burgoyne with pride

INDIGENOUS All Stars captain Shaun Burgoyne says it is hard not to be excited about tonight's match against the West Coast Eagles in Perth.

Burgoyne, who grew up playing for an Aboriginal team in regional South Australia, said the game would rank with his three premierships for Hawthorn as one of the highlights of his career.

"It's something that I'm very proud of," he said.

"I grew up playing for an all-indigenous team in Port Lincoln, so this game just gives me memories of being a kid again and playing with my family.

"I feel very happy and privileged to be captain of this team."

The indigenous side is missing a host of star players including Adam Goodes, Buddy Franklin, Paddy Ryder, Cyril Rioli, Michael Walters and Chad Wingard, and the Eagles are without 2014 Brownlow medallist Matt Priddis and top-liners Scott Selwood, Nic Naitanui, Luke Shuey, Matt Rosa, Josh Kennedy, Shannon Hurn and Jack Darling.

West Coast will have a significant height advantage, with Fremantle ruckman Jonathan Griffin one of the very few talls in the indigenous line-up.

The Eagles will be captained by midfielder Chris Masten and the squad includes former Carlton first-round draft pick Kane Lucas.

The rookie-listed 23-year-old is one of 10 players in the 26-man West Coast squad who have never represented the club.

Exciting young Gold Coast Suns midfielder Jack Martin will be one of the players to watch in the All Stars side, which also features Essendon's Jake Long, the son of former club champion Michael Long.
