Alleged backpacker rape case in court

AN ANNERLY man accused of drugging and raping a teenage German backpacker in the Stanthorpe region had his case mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday.

The man allegedly lured the 18-year-old to the Stanthorpe area with the promise of a job.

He is accused of drugging and raping the teen before dumping her in bushland.

The woman says she awoke the next day at Spring Creek, about 20km from Stanthorpe, with no clue of her whereabouts.

Police said she was able to raise the alarm, which started a police investigation that included multiple inquiries with interstate and overseas witnesses.

The 47-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the teenager's identity, has been charged with 12 offences.

The teenager has returned to Germany. The case was adjourned for callover on March 9.
