A FATHER and son set fire to their Coast business to claim the insurance money, police will allege.
Last Thursday about 11.45pm fire crews were called to a blaze in a brewery and liquor store on the corner of Simpson St and Peachester Rd, Beerwah which took four fire crews just under an hour to extinguish.
Proprietors of the store, Darren James Adcock, 29, and his father, 52, were arrested yesterday and were each charged with one count of arson.
A lawyer appeared on behalf of Darren Adcock, who remains in custody, in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday and the case has been adjourned until Thursday when Adcock is expected to make a bail application.
Outside of court, Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge Daren Edwards said investigations by the Caloundra CIB and Queensland Fire Service found the fire was suspicious and was likely "insurance related fraud".
"From the investigations... (it) appears to be a financial pressure for the motive of this fire," Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said.
As part of the investigation Det Snr Sgt Edwards said CCTV footage from a neighbouring business would be relied on.
Adcock's father is expected to appear in court at a later date.
