Alleged robber 'arrested in drag'

A MAN who allegedly robbed a Brisbane chemist twice was pulled over in Bargara wearing women's clothing on Friday night, a court was told yesterday.

Christopher Michael O'Donoghue, 31, of Boondall, was refused bail in Bundaberg Magistrates Court for stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two charges of robbery.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Fiona Ward said O'Donoghue allegedly entered an Aspley pharmacy on the morning of March 27 and asked for some strong headache tablets.

Snr Const Ward told the court when the pharmacist came to the counter, O'Donoghue allegedly took out a syringe filled with a blackish-coloured liquid and demanded suboxone, which is used in the treatment of opioid dependence.

She said the pharmacist gave O'Donoghue some tablets and he fled the store.

Snr Const Ward said later that day a man approached the same pharmacist with a screwdriver and demanded suboxone and subutex.

The pharmacist recognised him as the same person who held up the store earlier.

The court was told the pharmacist gave O'Donoghue the drugs and noted the number plates of the silver Hyundai getaway car.

Snr Const Ward said on Friday, April 1, Bundaberg Police pulled O'Donoghue over in Bargara, driving the silver Hyundai.

She said he was driving while wearing women's clothing and a Bargara hotel key was found in the car.

The court was told a search of the hotel found “a significant amount of evidence” to show O'Donoghue was involved in the robberies.

Defence lawyer Mary Buchanan said O'Donoghue was willing to organise and pay for regular drug screening as a part of bail conditions.

Magistrate Jennifer Batts refused bail and adjourned the matter to Pine Rivers Magistrates Court.
