Aloisi satisfied after Roar's pre-season thumping of Perth
FOOTBALL: Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi said there were plenty of positives to come out of a 4-0 friendly success over Perth Glory at Sydney's Leichardt Oval.
The Roar, which finishes its pre-season with a clash against an NPL Queensland select team on Saturday, reversed the result of the FFA Cup clash when the Glory won 2-0 earlier in the year.
While not reading much into the victory, Aloisi said he was satisfied with the showing against a strong Perth side.
"It's only a pre-season game but it shows that we're headed in the right direction with the season fast approaching,” he said.
"We're definitely ahead of where we were this far out from the season last year.”
As well as the form of frontmen Brandon Borello, Jamie Maclaren and Thomas Broich, there was also some encouraging performances from other key members of the squad.
Danish international midfielder Thomas Kristensen, who has been struggling with a quad injury, put in a stint of 45 minutes, while Luke DeVere, who missed most of last season, continued his comeback by getting 70 minutes of game time.
"We were positive going forward when we had the ball and defensively we kept our shape really well,” Aloisi said.
"Luke DeVere played 70 minutes and he was good and Michael (Theo) made a couple of good saves.”
The goals came from an own-goal from Glory defender Josh Risdon, Maclaren, Dimitri Petratos and Broich, who fired home with a superbly struck volley.
"We've got competition for places, which is what we want and what we really need if we want to compete,” Aloisi said.
The Roar kicks off its A-League campaign on October 7 at Suncorp Stadium against Melbourne Victory.
