UPDATE 5.20PM: A friend of the teenager injured in a cliff fall at Point Cartwright says the young woman was climbing when a rock slipped from under her foot.

The RACQ CareFlight helicopter was called to pick up the 18-year-old university student.

Her friend said he was sitting on a ledge when the young woman decided to try to climb a bit higher.

He said his friend, a paramedic student, kept talking so she didn't lose consciousness.

UPDATE 4.40PM: The injured young woman is still at the base of the cliff, near the lighthouse at Point Cartwright. The Daily's reporter Janine Hill and photographer John McCutcheon are at the scene.
