THE ABC's strategy of keeping its new comedy Angry Boys on air against the State of Origin last week appears to have backfired.
The fourth outing of Chris Lilley's series, which screened last night, attracted only 920,000 people, almost 400,000 down from the 1.3 million who watched its first two episodes.
When it retained such a big audience from week one to week two, it was seen as a strong indicator that the audience were going to stick with the show despite mixed reactions to its characters.
But against the State of Origin last week the third episode dropped to 805,000 viewers.
Many industry observers were keenly waiting for this morning's results for last night's fourth episode to measure the loyalty of the show's audience by how many would return after the interruption.
