Animal cruelty charges after container of dead kittens found

A MAN has been charged with animal cruelty after police conducting a routine traffic stop in Mount Isa last month found a shoebox sized container on the floor of the back seat of a car containing several dead kittens.

Police will allege four kittens were placed in the container around 9am to prevent them wandering around the 4WD.

The vehicle was intercepted by Mt Isa police on January 15 at around 6pm  that afternoon on Falcon Street with officers finding three of the kittens had died and one clinging to life. This kitten was given to an animal carer.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from The Gap in Brisbane, has been issued with a Notice to Appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on March 2 charged with animal cruelty.
