OUSTED Premier Anna Bligh will leave the state she governed for almost half a decade for Sydney to support her husband Greg Withers in his new role.

Mr Withers has reportedly been appointed to a senior executive position with Arts NSW - due to start in early September.

Ms Bligh told that Queensland would always be her home but it was now time to back her husband the way he had backed her in politics.

"I could not have pursued my political career or achieved anything in public life without Greg's loving support over almost three decades," she said.

"We agreed many years ago that after politics, it would be Greg's turn to determine the next phase of our lives."

Mr Withers was the Office of Climate Change director during Ms Bligh's premiership, but resigned in June.
