New archery club hosts open day in Emerald

THE new Emerald Archery Club held its first open day on Saturday, attracting potential members of all ages.

Coach Dave Brewer was kept busy giving pointers to youngsters and said they had about 73 express interest.

"It's a brand new club. The aim is to bring archery to Emerald," Brewer said.

"Hopefully we shoot every Saturday for members and also have monthly competitions from Gympie to Moranbah. It's a good family sport."

Brewer hopes to run beginners' classes.

Michael Geraghty, 9, was one of the beginners who benefited from the open day.

"He does practice at home on the farm and we thought we'd come along and get some professional advice," mum Lisa said.
