Arthur appointed in Eels deal

YET another about face in the Eels boardroom has resulted in Brad Arthur being appointed the new head coach for the next three seasons.

On Tuesday night, club chairman Steve Sharp convinced enough board directors to change their minds and install Arthur as the coach, just a week after they voted 3-2 in favour of Roosters assistant Jason Taylor.

It was reported yesterday that a two-year offer had already been extended to Taylor by Eels chief executive Scott Seward, but talks and deals between directors were taking place behind the scenes to get Arthur into the job.

Despite the about face, Seward spoke yesterday about the unity shown in the decision to appoint Arthur.

"This has been a thorough process and both myself and the PNRL Board are incredibly satisfied with this result," he said.

Arthur was an assistant at the Eels for the final six games of 2012.

"I have full confidence in the playing roster for next year, as well as the people at the Eels to get this club moving in the right direction," he said.
