ASX trading halted over glitch

ALL trade on the Australian stock exchange has been suspended due to a technical glitch.

A spokesman at the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) says they are working to resume trade as soon as possible once the problem is resolved.

The market has been placed in "enquire mode", in which no trades can be made.

The issue with the exchange was noticed shortly after the beginning of trade, and the exact nature of the problem remains unknown.

Chris Weston from IG Markets says it is a bad day for the market to be closed, as traders await the results of a key European Union summit in Brussels.
