Aussie star Jason Day ready to take on the world’s best

AUSTRALIAN Jason Day is relishing the chance to battle with the world No.1 and No.2 after being grouped with Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth for the first two rounds of the Players Championship.

Commonly known as the fifth major, the tournament at TPC Sawgrass is one of the most anticipated events on the USPGA Tour.

The world No. 7 had a disappointing time at the World Golf Championships in San Francisco last week but can't wait to put his game to the test against the world's best.

"I have a great pairing," Day said. "It's good to be in a group like that as it shows you are one of those guys and it shows the work that I have been doing is paying off and that's special.

"I want to do what they've done, of course I want to do that. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want what they've got.

"But when they and others win I just get fired up that I didn't give myself an opportunity to win.

"It annoys me and it's frustrating when I am not in contention, so hopefully I can fix that this week."
