Aussie summer secrets: hot secrets we don't tell tourists

THE Aussie summer is not just a barrel of laughs. For those who live through it, it can be quite painful.

Among the BBQs, beaches and bikinis are the sweaty sleepless nights and increased insect count that can be enough to drive you mad.

A survey of Australians has revealed the top summer trademarks that really get their blood boiling.

According to research conducted by Thinkinsulation, the biggest bugbear of summer for three quarters (72%) of Australians is being left dripping with sweat before they've even left the house.

The home is supposed to be a sanctuary, however 53% of Queenslanders say it's too hot to sleep at night during summer, even in the buff.

Almost a third (31%) have also been left feeling frustrated by the elevated electricity bills from keeping their living spaces comfortably air-con cool.

For the ladies it gets even worse, with two thirds (67%) of those surveyed lamenting how makeup just slips and smudges off their face and 55% are left with a frizzy mess when trying to style hair in the heat at the home.

Throw in a cocktail of increased numbers of bugs, flies and mosquitos, which annoyed 52% of those surveyed and it starts looking like avoiding the indoors is better for the temperament of people all over the country.

The most important room to keep cool in a home is the bedroom for over half the population (55%), so people can get valuable sleep.

In comparison, the research showed less than 15% are fed up of burning their feet on the hot ground and just one in 10 bothered by sun cream running into their eyes.
