Abbott: Australia won't impose sanctions on Russia over MH17

APN NewsdeskAUSTRALIA is unlikely to join the United States in imposing sanctions on Russia amid slowed efforts to recover bodies at the MH17 crash site in the Ukraine.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott today said Australia would not be part of the sanctions, he would not rule out any future changes on Tuesday.

Both the US and European Union imposed further economic trade sanctions on Russia, directed at cutting key oil and energy supplies to the eastern European nation.

But after fighting escalated overnight near the Malaysia Airlines crash site in the Ukraine, Australian Federal Police were forced to abandon their latest efforts to secure the site for investigation.

Mr Abbott said his focus was instead on getting the bodies home and investigating those behind the shooting down of MH17.
