Australian chart toppers recognised with new award

A NEW ARIA No 1 Chart Award has been created to recognise Australian and international artists who reach the top of the Australian Recording Industry Assocation's album and singles charts.

The award has been applied retrospectively to all domestic artists who reached the top of the charts since the start of 2013, including Keith Urban, Kylie Minogue (pictured), X Factor winner Dami Im, INXS and hit pop band 5 Seconds of Summer.

"A key feature of ARIA's activities has always been to champion the development and success of recording artists," said Denis Handlin AM, ARIA Chairman.

"The ARIA No 1 Chart Awards not only reflect the sales and chart successes achieved but also the great passion of fans right across the country for music."

The ARIA No 1 Chart celebrations continue this week as part of the VIVID Festival's In Conversation series.

ARIA CEO Dan Rosen will host a discussion on what it takes to reach the top of the charts tonight at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art featuring four-time ARIA winner Flume, Future Classic Founder Nathan McLay, producer and engineer Eric J Dubowsky and artist manager David Champion.
