AYDEN Bottcher is one of 17 recent graduates on the job hunt in Mackay after completing Construction Skills Queensland's Doorways 2 Construction (D2C) and Doorways 2 Civil Construction (D2CC) programs.

Ayden said the D2C program had helped him gain experience across a range of trades as well as a variety of training while still at school.

"You get all the certifications you need, from bricklayer to carpenter," he said.

"D2C gave me a great head start and means I can walk straight out of school and into a trade that I know I'll enjoy."

The year-long program also provided students with equipment and helped put them in touch with potential employers, Ayden said.

CSQ chief executive Brett Schimming said the school leavers were keen to start their careers in the building and construction industry.

"These graduates are great candidates for apprenticeships or traineeships... as they have a solid foundation of skills and experience in the commercial, domestic and industrial construction sector as part of their training," he said.

Employers who sign on a D2C or D2CC graduate may be eligible for CSQ's $4000 pre-apprenticeship incentive.

Employers could also receive an additional $6000 incentive from the State Government through the Apprenticeship Pledge.

A total of 232 Year 12 school leavers across Queensland completed the programs last year.

Ayden said ideally he was looking for a job in carpentry and hopes to eventually own his own carpentry business.

Employers looking for a new apprentice or trainee can phone CSQ on 1800 798 488.
