FOR years, the concept of a dozen girls clawing each other and batting their eyelashes at one bumbling bloke in a tux made me want to stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork.
But for some reason, when the tables turned and it was one single lady with a horde of men all attempting to dazzle her - I was hooked on The Bachelorette reality show concept.
Bachie fever spread quickly throughout the Mercury office, with a keen (not-at-all desperate) bunch of us partaking in lively social media commentary, before we had the bright idea to all gather in person to watch it and save on our monthly phone data caps.
So much has our enthusiasm for the show taken over, we've now quite literally taken over the bar at a Mackay licensed establishment and gained control over the remote from 7.30pm for rose ceremony nights.
The weeks of prep have all been leading to tonight, when we find out just who Bachelorette Sam Frost will choose out of 'Remember When I Drew you a Meaningful Picture With all the Feels' Sasha or 'Not Really a Pro Soccer Player and Emotionless Robot' Michael.
The Merc crew Facebook group chat went into meltdown last night when 'Mr Cool Bananas' Richie was bid a tearful goodbye, and we all scrambled to find the most appropriate GIF that would adequately sum up our feelings.
Do you watch the Bachelorette?

For me, my money has always been on Sasha. From the get go, he turned Sam into a stuttering schoolgirl who'd just been asked to the disco by her crush of two weeks.
When he presented her with a framed artwork he'd carefully drawn himself, Sam reacted the same way I did when I was passed a note during little lunch that said "will you go out with me? _ yes or _ no" by my Year 5 crush. (Though she didn't run away without saying anything behind the tuckshop to show her friends or not speak to the guy for a month following).
Every time Sasha and Sam are on screen together, it looks like we're all witnessing their wedding video montage and the other guys are just out-of-place ushers or bartenders (or page boys, if you're Davey).
You can tell Sasha is keen on Sam. He listens to her, lets her talk and responds to her stories with affection and care.
Michael, on the other hand, reminds me of uptight boss Jack Donaghy in the TV show 30 Rock (played by Alec Baldwin) where, if you were sick or crying, would grab a broom and use the harsh bristles to stroke your back and say "there there".
For me there's no competition for who will win Sam's heart tonight: Sasha all the way.
I ADMIT it, I'm a sucker for reality TV.
I love my cooking shows (MasterChef is a firm favourite), but watching the Bachelorette is something else entirely.
Watching a bunch of blokes vying for one girl's attention, believe it or not makes great, and addictive TV.
The best thing about it is seeing just how awkward some of the guys can be. Owl man, barista/musician and my favourite 'Mr Cool Bananas/Sticks Richie.
It's always impossible to judge from a TV show, but Richie seems like a genuinely good bloke.
And this is the reason you get addicted, also the sane/crazy chats over Facebook and in our office make the show even more entertaining.
Bring on tonight's final, and make the twist that Richie comes back - wishful thinking I know, but hey, he's pretty dreamy.
