ABOUT $5000 in damage has been done to gas lines and a gas meter at a Ruthven St bakery overnight.

Police were called to Flour and Bean bakery at 6am to reports of leaking gas.

Toowoomba police shift supervisor Sergeant Greg Wheeler said it appeared someone had slept in bushes at the front of the shop, near the gas meter.

However he said police were investigating whether or not the same person damaged a gas service pipe, meter and consumer pipe.

Sgt Wheeler said the damage bill was about $5000.

The bakery was affected with ovens and water heating not working without gas.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
