Barbies rule at couple’s cook-up

DAN and Steph Mulheron were armed with their barbecue tools to cook up some delicious dishes.

The My Kitchen Rules 2013 winners were at Bunnings in Mackay on Saturday to show foodies how easy it was to create barbecue meals rather than just steak and sausages.

The pair said their quick and fresh meals would inspire people to use their barbecues more.

"We're cooking a Greek dish, a Vietnamese dish and a prawn and fennel and grapefruit salad," Dan said.

"We always use seasonal ingredients. We'll be cooking up some bananas on the barbecue, too."

Dan said he hadn't been sure they were going to make it to Mackay.

"It was raining all the way from Rocky," he said. "I didn't think we'd make it. It was very heavy.

"We're not used to that type of tropical, North Queensland downpour, coming from Hervey Bay."

This will be a big year for the foodie couple.

"We're looking at purchasing our first home," Dan said.

"Our cafe opens in five week and then we have our Dan and Steph sausage range coming out."

Steph said they were also going to start trying for a family and said 2014 would be their "biggest year".
